Church Services

We have very close links with our local churches, especially St. Andrew’s Church across the road where we regularly hold services.  These are attended by all children and staff, and parents are also invited. Every year we have services to welcome new children, celebrate Easter, Nativity, Remembrance and a number of special Agape services.  We also held a special Commissioning Service in October for our new headteacher, Mrs Frounks.

Agape Meal

At St. Andrew’s Church School we welcome everyone to participate in our Agape service.  It is a reflective time when we can all share together as a community.

“Agape” is the New Testament Greek word for “self-giving love”.  In the Christian tradition an “Agape” is also the name for the informal meals and times of togetherness and mutual sharing which remind us of all those meals Jesus shared with his friends and that his Spir

it continues to give us.

Here are some comments from our children:

“Everyone sings and it makes me happy.”

“I like the Agape meal because different children take part.  It reminds me that God is helping us all the time.”

“I love eating together.  It’s like God’s party!”

Easter Cracked

Each year, Year 5 have the fantastic opportunity to take part in Easter Cracked run by MINT (Ministeries in North Taunton). After and introductory worship, the whole school waves them off with 'palm' leaves and year 5 start their journey through the story of Easter as they journey around the local area. Historically, a real donkey used to lead the way but sadly this is no longer possible.

Welcome Service

Every September/October, all of our new children in Reception and across the school, and their families and new staff or governors, are welcomed into our school community by placing a pebble into our beautiful silver bowl. When the children leave St Andrew's, whether this is in Year 6 or earlier, they take their pebble back out with our good wishes for the future.

The bowl is on display all year round protected by our school bear Stan who was presented to us when we joined the BWMAT and Jane, who was presented on the Trust's 10th birthday. The bears do get up to mischief and regularly 'escape' to go on educational visits with the children -  I think Jane must have been on a visit when the photo below was taken!

During this service, Mrs Jarmain, our school chaplain, commissions our new pupil chaplains following their successful application process.
