Curriculum Intent and Early Years Vision
At St Andrew's Church School, we believe every child deserves a high-quality education rooted in awe, wonder and play. As a Christian school, we care deeply for one another and weave spirituality throughout our curriculum. Our spirituality statement is:
"Spirituality is when you stop, notice and think about yourself, other people and the mysteries of the world."
We create opportunities for children to explore big questions, reflect on the world around them and develop a sense of wonder. Through a safe, secure and nurturing environment, children are encouraged to be themselves, share their ideas and ask meaningful questions with confidence.
Our experienced and caring staff build strong relationships with children and their families from the very beginning, often before children start school. By valuing each family's unique background and fostering positive partnerships with parents and carers, we ensure children feel happy, excited and ready to begin their journey with us.
We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved in their learning. We listen to their voices, value their ideas and provide opportunities for choice, exploration and discovery. By building on children's interests and prior experiences, we nurture curiosity, independence and a lifelong love of learning.
Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. We ensure all children have the support and opportunities they need to access the curriculum and reach their full potential. We celebrate diversity, respect every family and teach children to value and care for one another, promoting a culture of kindness, respect and belonging.
Our aim is to provide a happy and nurturing environment that promotes wellbeing and enables children to thrive. Through meaningful, hands-on experiences, we develop the knowledge, skills and understanding children need across all seven areas of learning. Our well-structured, playful and flexible curriculum engages and motivates children while supporting their individual interests, creativity and critical thinking.
Reading and phonics are at the heart of our Reception curriculum. We foster a love of books and storytelling from the very start, recognising that strong language and communication skills provide the foundation for all future learning.
Our Teaching and curriculum content is in accordance to The Early Years Framework:
