Curriculum Intent -
At St Andrew’s Church School, we believe that everyone can achieve in maths. We aim to develop competent, confident mathematicians who are excited about number and who can apply their learning in context. Our goal is to ensure that when pupils leave us, they are assured, happy and resilient mathematicians who relish the challenge of maths. We aim to develop our children’s skills, knowledge and understanding by providing a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving tasks. During their maths learning journey at St Andrew’s Church School, they will become independent and reflective thinkers, who can make links between mathematical concepts and the wider curriculum.
To achieve this, we follow the White Rose scheme of work. We use the long-term overviews to guide our teaching and learning, however we may modify our planning to suit the needs of our children and may supplement White Rose with other resources. We follow a concrete, pictorial and abstract approach to ensure children have a full and deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
